Pulled Ethernet Plug or Ad-Aware Disables 1 computer on network

Sorry for the long-winded explanation....

I have an ethernet twisted pair cable network installed in my house with 3
computers on it.. a laptop on flr 2.. a desktop on floors 1 and in the
basement
All are pentium4 based machines
All have pci card slots...
I have a router with 4 ports.. and a dsl modem connected to the router...

2 days ago.. in the evening.. I started ad-aware on the mid-level computer
running and left it.. my wife came back to the computer 1 hr later... and
followed the prompt to delete all the offending items. Because some of the
items couldn't be deleted. she was prompted to restart so that ad-aware
could scan in boot mode which she did...
ad-aware found an additional 65 items w hich it deleted.

From that point.. the mid-level computer would not connect to the internet..
or the other 2 computers.... We were suspicious of ad-aware but also found
that the ethernet plug into the card had been pulled out... the cord is
short and must have somehow been pulled out when the cpu box was shifted
around..

I have

1) replaced the ethernet cord to no avail...
2) replaced the ethernet interface card in the same pci slot.. no work
3) replaced the ethernet card.. putting it in a new pci slot to no avail....

4) I fully uninstalled the card and restarted the machine to ensure windows
would not use the old drivers/configuration etc.

One event that happened was when I tried the troubleshooter.. I received a
message from mcaffee indicating that If I ran the diagnostic for the
connection.. that the script might cause problems/do damage.... Tried a
virus scan.. doesn't seem to find anything...

Thankyou in advance.
