Publishing Calendar 'Upload Failed'

I'm trying to share the Exchange calendar I use at work with someone outside
of my corporate environment. They've published theirs and I have been able
to view via Office Online. When I go to publish mine, I continually get a
'Upload Failed' error. Any ideas on how to fix would be GREATLY appreciated!

Does it work if you publish a second calendar? (create a new calendar folder

Does it work if you move all items to a new calendar folder and publish the
empty folder?
Publishing a different calendar tells us the admin isn't blocking it.

Hi Diane

I am getting the same error, in reply to your questions in my case

1) Outlook 2007 & all patches/updates
2) I can publish a second blank calendar, and subscribe
3) I cannot change any settings as I get the fail message
4) It does not seem to update itself
5) To confirm this is a locked calendar (ie invitation only access)

This calendar used to publish, yesterday it started asking for the password
when we tried to delete and republish it would fail on upload everytime.

I get the same result with any calendar; even a new blank test calendar.

Can anyone help me?

You'll need to be patient - there is a problem with the server. It's been
buggy off and on for weeks but over the weekend, it start asking for
passwords very frequently.

I'm glad I found this forum b/c I'm having the same issue for the past two
weeks with pop ups asking for passwords and not being able to re-publish my
calendar. This feature is used everyday in my company and is a big way of
communication. Hopefully it gets fixed b/c I've been troubleshooting, calling
and searching online. I finally came across this forum....

If you deleted it from tools, accounts, it should stop the dialog -
republishing won't work at all (I haven't checked yet today though).

If everyone is on the same network, you may be able to set up a webdav
server on a desktop in the network. See
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2007/publishcal.htm.

If you need internet access to the calendar, you'll need web server that
supports webdav. I use Intermedia.net to host our websites (on windows 2008)
and can publish my calendar to it, but any host that supports webdav should
work.

I have the same problem with several computers. It used to work fine but
now for the last couple of weeks it doesn't... You have mentioned the server
may be flukey.... but as I scan back into 2/2008 messages I noticed there
were server problems noted as now... frankly I'm spending more time
attempting to find if the problem is on my side or Microsoft's than I can
posting calendars.
Is there a way for us to use Google Calendar as the server? It works fine.

Yeah, this is not the first time there have been issues. It's fine for home
use - for sharing with family - but if calendar sharing is critical to
business, I'd either go with a hosting account that has guaranteed uptime or
set up IIS on the internal network.

I don't think you can publish to gmail using outlook - you can sync the
gmail calendar to outlook and share the gmail calendar though. Syncing
gmail calendar with multiple copies of outlook is not recommended - you risk
losing data.

I haven't checked too deeply with other hosting services - I have a cheap
godaddy hosting account but it doesn't appear to have webdav enabled.

You actually CAN "sync" of a sort to Google. You have to keep uploading the
ICS every time you change it - at least that is how I read their report on
it.

I tell you though, it really gets me. I have been relying on uploading my
working calendar from my work laptop to the Microsoft online calendar thing
and then I had been subscribed to it at home where I couldn't alter it, only
look at it which was just fine. I need to know what is going on at home, in
my calendar. Now I cant do that.

hosting account SOMEWHERE that will allow ics to sync. I don't know of such
a place, though, if someone else does.

I also just found this on a search. http://gcaldaemon.sourceforge.net/ which
is a free app to sync icalendar between Google and your computer. Haven't
tried it yet. Hope it works.

Gmail has their own sync tool for calendars -
http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=98563. I
don't recommend using this on multiple computers, so use it like you do
office online- one uploads, others download.

Here's a simple solution. I did a google search for ical servers and found
www.icalx.com. Create an account and use it as the ical server with Outlook.
It's free and works flawlessly.

I'm incredulous as to why Microsoft can't seem to provide this service...
Your suggestion of Daveswebsite looks terrific. But I have spent too much
time with this already. I must sadly resolve to find alternatives to the
Microsoft products I have come to love in better times...

If you need internet access to the calendar, you'll need web server

supports webdav. I use Intermedia.net to host our websites (on windows

Here's a simple solution. I did a google search for ical servers and
found
www.icalx.com. Create an account and use it as the ical server with
Outlook.
It's free and works flawlessly.

Two problems with that - firstly Outlook 2007 can only subscribe to a
READ-ONLY internet-based calendar so you can't write to it (unlike the
Mozilla Sunbird and Lightning offerings which can read AND write to an
internet calendar) and secondly, there have been problems accessing
icalx.com (certainly here - I used to use it and gave up).
The Google Calendar synchronizing utility is the way to go.

Doesn't that depend on how the calendar is set up to be shared? For example,
anyone on an EXCHANGE server with the appropriate rights can change the
calendar of someone else so isn't it just that Microsoft made it happen that
way at their server and that at any other server it depends on how the
calendar is set to be accessed?

Yes with Exchange - but the OP is talking about Office Online which is an
INTERNET calendar.

Oh I see. Well, from what I can see having read the site, Microsoft have
shut down all published calendars from Outlook 2007 to their servers so that
is that. I hope I am wrong but that is what I read there.
