Published video has black gaps

Hi all

Would be great if someone could provide any help.

I imported various short avi clips and one continuous soundtrack into
the Movie Maker project. In preview mode, it all works fine and then I
publish it. The resulting file however, has several bits where the
spliced clips are missing whilst the timer and soundtrack keeps
running. The time slots in which the clips disappear become just black
screens, until the next clip appears.

There is nothing special about these missing clips and when I splice
the missing clips into a new movie, they work. I've tried placing
these clips into another part of the video and they come out fine.

Has anyone experienced this before or have any idea about what's going
wrong? Or perhaps you can point me in the way of someplace/someone
who might be able to help.

I've created other videos before and no such problems have appeared
before..

Thanks very much in advance!

Is it a large project?
I ask because it could be a complexity issue that can be resolved by
splitting the project into smaller pieces.
I have a step-by-step tutorial explaining how to do this in the Movie
Maker -> How-To section of my website.

I'm helping my son with a school project and we're having the exact same
problem. Everything looks fine in Movie Maker but when we publish the movie
it comes out with all kinds of black spaces in it.

His class instructor said that he thinks it's because the source videos
we're using (home movies made with his classmates digital camcorder) are too
high quality or too large. I've never heard of anything like this before.

Would greatly appreciate any suggestions as this project is due on Monday!

Thanks!!!

it could be a codec issue.... what camcorder brand and model is it? did
you/he capture it via firewire or a USB/RCA cables connection?

it could be that special effects or transitions were applied, but they arn't
working due to missing files....

it could be the complexity that Wojo referred to... try saving to a Pocket
PC choice and seeing if it has an effect on how complete the movie is.
