Publishe Printers disappear from AD search

J

Jason

I have a recurring problem that is strange. I have 90 published, network
printers on a server that on occation will disappear from the Active
Directory. I have to stop/restart the spooler service on this server and on
a DC in order to get the printers to reappear in the AD search option.

Has any seen this issue before? If so, what is the cause and resolution for
it?

Thanks

Hi Jason,

In these 90 printers, do you have the Xerox Docutech 6135 printer? If yes,
please remove the printer driver from XEROX and use the Windows 2000
default driver of the printer. The Xerox printer may cause the problem.

If you don't have this mode printer, would you please tell me which
printers you are using?

I think we can remove the printer driver for these printers one by one and
see whether this can solve the problem. We can use the Windows 2000 default
driver instead of the manufacturer driver.

I do not have any Xerox printers in use. I use mostly HP Laserjet. I also
have a few Epson, Okidata, Panasonic and Toshiba.

I am currently trying to determine if the user can access this printer in a
different way.

Thanks.

Hi Jason,

Do you have installed the Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 on each domain
controller? If not, please make sure to install the Service Pack 4 on each
domain controller.

Let's also check the group policy:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Printers

Check whether you have set the "Directory pruning interval", "Directory
pruning priority" and "Directory pruning retry" policy. If yes, disable it.

If this also does not work, please check the printer server event log. If
you found any error related with the spooler service, please paste it to me
and I will continue to help you.
