.PST Folder missing

I was all along able to open a .pst file, but suddenly at some point today,
it gave me the following message: "Folder cannot be displayed path/.pst
cannot be found". On going to the particular path on my machine, I saw that
the .pst file itself was missing. The .pst was not present in the Recycle
Bin, nor was it hidden. I tried recovering it from various file recovery
programs, but the file does not show up.

What happened to the file? I am 100% sure that I did not delete it. The file
surely was huge (though I cannot say if it exeeded 2GB).

I don't see any point of running SCANPST.exe, as I am unable to locate the
file itself.

Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Please let me know what can be done in this regard. I have two years worth
of data and never knew that .pst had a limit of 2GB.

I would appreciate any help/pointers that you can provide.

PSTs don't disappear for no reason. The default location of the PST is
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook, which is a
hidden folder.

Brian,

Thanks for your reply: Both hide files/folder and hide OS system files"
options have been turned off. Still I am not able to find the .pst
folder/file. Also, even it has been accidentally deleted, it is not showing
up through any file recovery programs. How is this possible?

You may be out of luck, then.

It's possible is another file has reused the metadata the file system keeps.
