pst files

Hi, I've just re-formatted and re-installed Win98se and
Office 2000. Before I did this I saved the "outlook.pst"
file which I think has all my emails on it.
No matter how I try, the newly installed outlook will not
accept the old .pst file. It promts me to create a
new "personal folders.pst" file.
Is there any way I can get the contents of the old
outlook.pst file into the new personal folders.pst file.
I've tried replacing and re-naming but it won't have it.
Any suggestions gratefully received
John

The best way to do it is to let Outlook create the new .PST, then open your
old one using File | Open | Personal Folders File, and finally tell Outlook
to use the old one as your default instead of the new one. You can change
the default by right clicking the root folder of your old file, selecting
Properties, then checking the box that says "Deliver POP mail to this
personal folders file". Once you've made that change, you should be able to
close out the .PST that you don't need -- right click its root folder and
click Close.
