pst file not a personal folder

I recently had an error when I opened my outlook, it told me to run scanpst.
I did this and the error went away and I was able to open Outlook. I checked
my emails and closed Outlook. The next time I tried to open it, it gave me an
error that the pst file was not a peronal file. It is outlook 2003. Every
time I open it it gives me the error and when I hit OK it closes Outlook. is
there any way I can open outlook now or do I have to get a new copy.

Have you upgraded at some time from an earlier version of Outlook, if so
what is the size of the data file (By default outlook.pst)?
And if you again run scanpst, exe, several times, untill it finds no err's
are you then able to open Outlook?
If not Control Panel>Mail applet add a new data file, set it as default,
close/remove the origonal data file.
Restart outlook

The problem is not with outlook, its with your PST file. Did you try
scanpst again?

You can rename the current pst then open outlook and let it make a new pst
so it will open - then once the old pst is repaired, move the contents to
the new pst.

Thanks Diane that worked, but how do I transfer the info from the repaired
pst file?

Open the pst using file, open, outlook data file and move the contents to
the new pst. If you use subfolders you can drag the top folder and
everything in it will move. For calendar and contacts, use a table view (by
category works) and select all.

You could use File, Import to import the contents but because of the
corruption I would move the contents myself.

Once you see that message, it is unlikely you'll be able to access that PST
again. If Outlook produces that error, it is typical for SCANPST to produce
it as well. It's possible a commercial PST recovery tool can do better. See
