PST File failure

Outlook 03 will no longer access my pst file. I have Office 2003 installed,
all working ok. I did try the demo of 2007 but dont even think I ever ran
Outlook. Anyway, i did uninstall 2007 and left 2003 on machine.

Now, when I start Outlook I get Error 0x80040119.
If I try to change the settings of the file, it says "outlook.pst is not a
personal folders file"

I tried running the Repair Tool, and after the scan, i get the "found
errors" message and asked if i wanted to repair. When I clicked yes, it
failed after starting.

I'm in a pickle - can't access my mail file. Anyone have another idea?

THanks,

How big is the .pst file and in what format? 97-2002 Format or a Personal Folders File.

It is not 97-2002, it is the newer 2003 Personal Folders pst. The file size
is 1.2MB.

As it's your only copy and obviously important, you may want to take a
couple of copies and work on those rather than risking (further) damage to
the original.

I've used a local data recovery firm to recover from both .pst and .ost
files. They have tools, experience and economies of scale that make them
well worthwhile. The $40.00 they charge isn't worth 15 min of my time. YMMV.

Thanks Henry. I am actually religious about backups but by a cruel stroke of
fate, my backup drive failed about three weeks ago and is with a recovery
comany right now - the outlook is poor right now. Guess I need two back up
drives!

The company I'm using to recover the drive said they couldn't fix a
"corrupt" pst file so if anyone knows of a company that can help, please let
me know.

Thanks again.

I ran the program and it said it recovered the file.

I went to run Outlook again and I got the same error - file.pst is not a
personal folder file.

Very frustrating...I'm thinking about wiping MSOffice 03 off of the machine
(totally clean removal) and reinstalling - maybe some setting got screwey?

If SCANPST can open the file, then Outlook should be able to as well. Are
you opening the exact same PST with Outlook that you repaired with SCANPST?

Yes, the Fickle Finger of Fate will ensure that you're hit when most
vulnerable no matter how many levels of redundancy you have, but at least 2
backup media is a good idea.

Not sure what you mean. SCANPST errored out when it tried to fix the errors
it found in the file. So it never made it through the SCANPST routine.

I uninstalled Office 03 last night - used the ms instrucitons to "totally"
delete it and all versions of office just to make sure there were no
lingering settings, issues, etc. After reinstall, the issue still remained.

Can Microsoft help?

Brian - just to clarify...when I say I "ran the program", i was talking about
the Outlook Recovery file suggested earlier in this thread.

As stated in my earlier email, I already tried SCANPST - it went through the
scan, said it found errors, made a backup copy, but failed when it started
the fix process. Nebulous windows error - but would not complete the fix.

That's not what you said before. Here's what you said:

issue still remained.

Did you create a new mail profile as well?
Can Microsoft help?

Who knows? Call them.
