PST File error

I am running a downloaded version (from Microsoft) of Small Business Office
2007 on Vista and cannot open Outlook after an accidental power down while
Outlook was open.

Here is the message I get:

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The
set of folders cannot be opened. The file C:\Useres\FL\outlook\outlook.pst is
not a personal folders file.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Okay, lets start with the obvious. Outlook is attempting to open a PST file,
then it must be set up to use one. Is it? either way go into control panel
and there should be a "Mail" icon, if viewing in classic mode, double click
on this. this will bring up the outlook settings. from there should be an
option for "Data File Managment" open this and verify that no listings are
there. If there are any click on them and "remove" or "delete" whichever
applies. Click on ok and try to open Outlook. You should be all set. If
not then there are other steps.
 
Yes, it is set to use my PST file, but will not open it.
2 listings in Data File Management:
Archive Folders of my PST file
Personal Folders of my PST file.

If I delete these, am I deleting my PST file and all data? I'm trying to
restore my PST file and not lose any mail, contacts....

I apologize, I should have made that one more clear.

If you delete the file setings from the Data File Management it does not
delete the file just the mapping to it. The files will still be there and
can be remapped at a later time.
