After obtaining the proper cables, I installed
my Netgear PS101 with my HP LaserJet 1200 on
my LAN. However, in doing the Netgear software
installation, I found that it had no driver for
my printer. Also, it would not accept anything
from my HP driver disk. I tried drivers for
several other HP printers. I did get it to
print, but it did not provide printer options
that I use.

Anyone know where I can get such a driver, or
do I have to get another printer or server?

Thanks for your advice.
Mike.

Hi,

Honestly I would suggest a JetDirect 170x for the type of setup that
you are using simply because it would work better and your drivers
will work correctly. The JetDirect is also made by HP too so the
support will be there for you if you need it. If you are going to be
using the same setup that you have right now, the only thing that I
can suggest that you try is using a HP 4 Plus driver that is built
right into your Operating System providing that it is Windows 2000
and higher.

I hope that helps you out ..

This driver didn't print anything.

lol :)

There should also be a built in 1100/1200 driver to the operating
system as well. Try those out instead of the driver that you download
off the website or off the cd. It will probably work better. If none
of those drivers work then I would suggest looking at that HP
JetDirect 170x as a permanent fix.

This driver didn't print anything.

Correction -- operator error -- it works somewhat, but
not adequately.

If the print server can communicate through either port 9100 or lpd/lpr
protocols, you shouldn't need a special driver. Use the stock LJ1200
driver and just set the port to whatever is appropriate for the Netgear.

I line this idea, but there is nothing in the server
support software that offers any control of the port.

This says it does support lpr/lpd:

http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/N101141.asp

So I'd deinstall all of their software and set it up like this:

Thanks for your suggestions.

The article you cite in the first link is for a PS110.
I have a PS101. I tried something like the recommendation
in the second link. It asks you to select the printer in
the PS101 driver list. It does not have a driver for the
HP LaserJet 1200, which is what I have. I selected a
generic with graphic support and got a mess. I haven't
tried it yet, but I suspect that if I select text-only, it
might work, but my requirement includes graphics.

Okay, this one says that the PS101 does support lpd:

(under "Mac fans").

It has to be followed exactly. It's a procedure that has worked for me
many times, which is why I took the time to document all the steps in
that message.

It doesn't work now, right? What do you have to lose?

My suggestion is to remove the Netgear software so it doesn't interfere
by "making things easier" and carefully follow this procedure:

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.periphs.printers/msg/850d68c775d43f25

The hardest part will be assigning an IP address to the print server,
and you've already done that, right?

After you create the "Standard TCP/IP Port", you'll be able to choose
from all the drivers that come with XP. Choose HP under manufacturer on
the left, choose "LaserJet 1200 Series PCL" or "LaserJet 1200 Series PS
(MS)" on the right.
