Projector-Powerpoint problems

We continually have a problem using Powerpoint with our new Dell projector -
randomly without any warning or obvious reason, when pressing the remote
button to go to the next slide, the entire presentation will skip through to
the end in a matter of seconds. It doesn't seem to be able to be stopped. We
have had replacement remotes and projectors, but the problem continues which
makes me wonder if it's PowerPoint. (some sort of setting, or known
incompatibility with projectors...?) If anyone can help here, it would be
very much appreciated, although I haven't come across anyone with the same
problem...

Hi,

I've never heard of PowerPoint doing that unless the slide timings were set
to do that. It sounds like faulty hardware. that is, some sort of dodgy
connection that keeps the mouse enabled. What I wonder is, do the slides
that skip have animations? If they did, then a mouse stuck <on> would skip
through the animations as well.

Please tell us your PowerPoint version,
whether you are using vba,
whether your dog has fleas, or
anything else relevant.

Thanks for your reply. I have to say we have never had the problem with using
the mouse or keyboard to go to the next slide/sequence. It only occurs when
using the projector's remote - but even replacement ones do the smae thing
(which is why I wondered it had something to do with Poerpoint). All the
slides have an animation of some sort (the next peice of text appears), and
it occurs on random slides- there seems to be no pattern at all. (I thouhgt
perhaps there was some strange animation setting accidentally added to one
slide, but it doesn't just happen on one slide). If you have any other
thought's I'd really appreciate it, otherwise I guess it's the hardware...

I've actually seen this happen, but it's never been in a situation where I
had to get it resolved, so I don't know the fix.

I would probably try downloading the most up-to-date drivers you can find
for the remote, and I'd also see if changing hardware acceleration (up or
down). See How to set graphics hardware acceleration back
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00129.htm for instrux.

Echo I agree with you on this one. I've seen it happen with bad video
drivers. Updating them would be my first step.

The Dell remote doesn't have specific drivers to load.
Windows sees it as a generic HID mouse.
This is a good one. I'd like to see the problem file.

Hm. Is it a wireless remote? Wonder if something's interfering with the
signal, then? (I'm quite obviously not familiar with this remote!)

When I've had this kind of thing happen, I've not been able to find anything
in the files themselves that should cause this. But that's my files, not
HR's. <g> Then again, you're talking to the person whose PPT files tend to
move randomly to different slides when in normal editing mode even when
she's not touching the mouse! (I'm thinking it's a mouse driver issue there,
maybe.)
