Programs

Is there a way to pupt the Programs in alphabetical (or some other logical)
order? I am referring to the list of Programs that appear in Start,
Programs. I have quite a long list. It is a pain in the butt to pore over
the list looking for a specific program since they appear to be in a totally
random order. Maybe the current order is not really random but its logic
evade my understanding. I would like to put them in alphabetical order. So
that Adobe Acrobat, for example, would be near the top and Windows Whazzit
near the end. is there any way to do this?

Joe -

Click on Start | All Programs
Right-click anywhere in the list of programs
Select Sort by Name

Go to Start then Programs. While you are viewing the list make sure your
mouse stays on the list somewhere and right click. On the menu should be a
Sort by Name. Click on that and it will alphabetize your program list for
you.

Not random, but the order in which they were installed.

I would like
to put them in alphabetical order.

Right-click anywhere in the list and choose "Sort by name."

Alternatively, you can drag and drop them into any order you prefer. Rather
than alphabetical order, some people, for example, prefer to have their
most-used programs at the top of the list and their least-used at the
bottom.

Thanks to all! I knew it had to be easy. But there always has to be a
wrinkle. Sort By Name did exactlkyk that--for the first two-thirds of the
programs! The rest remained in their original order (by installation
date?). However, I was able to right-click and drag those pesky suckers to
their correct location by name. naturally, I am not going to try to sort
them by name gain--I'll probably get the same 2/3 result!

That doesn't sound... likely. However, you should notice that the
alphabetization happens twice. First, all the program folders are
alphabetized, then all the individual programs. And, of course, there
are probably some programs and/or folders "pinned" to the beginning of
the list, which are alphabetized the same way: folders, then individual
programs. Perhaps these things are what you were noticing?
