programs wont open

I use XP home edition and recently my computer starts fine for about 5 mins,
but then it slows right down to almost stopped, when i try to open several
programs nothing happens, then a few mins later they open all at once, and
my task manager tells me the CPU is using 100 percent processing power, then
the programs wont close on there own, but if i restart the computer it runs
fine for a little while then slows down again.
Thanks

You need to find the specific process in that application that's taking all
the CPU resources and slowing down your PC.

To do this try Process Explorer:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

Once you have Process Explorer installed and running:
Click on the CPU column to sort processes by %CPU usage, highest CPU usage
at the top which is normally the System Idle process.
Next wait until your PC shows signs of the slowdown
Then click on the process that using most or all the CPU %, once it
highlighted, right click
and from the options listed select: google
This should display what out there on the web about that process.

Note: some entries like Explorer and svchost may need to be expanded to show
the detail,
(sub processes), in this case click on the + located to the left on the
entry.
