Programs creating folders in my user account folder

I've had a couple of programs I've installed put their own folders into my
user account folder (you know, the one that has "Documents", "Downloads",
etc. in Windows Vista). I don't particularly want them there, but I'm unsure
if it will screw anything up to move or delete them. Any input?

Depends on the programs.

Are there options within the program to direct the folders elsewhere?

If that's not an option, I would snoop in the registry. Start looking
under:

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software"

for the manufacturer of the programs, then look for subkeys relating to the
particular program. If you find values with the path to the folders in
question, editing the path to your desired location and moving the current
folders to that location as well should solve your problem.
