Program run error

I've tried to run several .exe files today (new drivers and a couple of
small apps) but am getting the following error:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.

All suggestions welcome.
