Program not responding...

R

Robert Bodling

I have been having a problem with my computer where I get a program (any
program and more than one different type) that has fail to respond, when I
press the [X} to close the program or attempt to close or terminate the
program through Task Manager, it will give me the window to [end] and still
fails to end... no matter how many times I tell it to end. Several times it
has taken many attempts to get the non-responsive program to close... why?

That's usually simply because the program you're trying to End hasn't
gotten the "End" message yet; something, not necessarily that program,
has the cpu so busy it takes that long for the End message to make it to
the app you're trying to end.

That's often a symptom of a malware infected machine. Is it running
slower than it used to?
Time to update and run your AV and all spyware/malware apps you have
in your arsenal. If none, study up and get some!
If after a day's work you still haven't gotten it fixed, and need to,
it's often much more efficient to just back up your data and clean
reinstall XP. You do make backups, right? If not, it's PAST time to
start! Best backup IMO is imaging software. Still useful but not as
great is the standard backup that comes with XP; it'll work just fine.
