Program Folder opens at Windows Start-up

Everytime now that I start up my computer, after Windows XP starts, it will
open my Program Folder and leave it open. I've checked msconfig and my start
up folder, no luck. How do I get this folder not to open on start up?
thanks in advance,
Rachel

Rachel, go to Start>Run type: regedit click Ok. Navigate to
HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run, RunOnce
etc. Look in each folder- rt side pane
for a Program Folder entry. If there, rt click on it and choose delete. Do
the same for
HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run etc.

Rachel,

Download Startup Tracker application from this page:

Launch the program, and click the "View log" button. Post the contents of
the log file here.

What a nice little tool. I checked my registry as recommended above and
could not find an entry that showed to open the Program Folder. Here are the
results of the registry scan. Perhaps it's right in front of me!

Rachel,

There are some entries in the listing that are not enclosed within
double-quotes. You need to open Regedit.exe and navigate to the
corresponding registry keys and fix the Value data for the entries starting
with the string C:\Program....

Use the following articles as examples:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/stfolder.htm
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/dellfolder.htm

Backup your registry first.

I made the corrections, thanks. Then I decided to actually look in this
"Program" folder. It was empty. When I went one level up I then saw there
were three folders, the familiar "Program Files", then this "Program" which
was empty and "Program1" which was also empty. I then deleted the two which
were empty, rebooted and Windows booted up as it should, with no open folder
on the desktop. I have no clue where these two empty files came from or what
caused one of them to automatically open on booting up windows. Thanks for
all your tips...I did learn a few things...and appreciate your prompt
responses!
