product will not install

during installation the product will not get beyond the point of:

Please wait while the instalation wizard installs Windows defender. This
may tak several minutes...................

the installation hangs at that point and goes no further. Leaving the
Toshiba Laptop on indefinitely has no effect.(SatelliteP35--S6112 w/ 1 gig
ram, Win XP home sp2)

You might try turning off real-time protection by your antivirus app for the
duration of the install.
