i attempted to verify my windows product key recently to download some
WINDOWS updates.

and had a small problem.

i have a software tool from

www.magicaljellybean.com

that tells me the

information related to my product key for windows.

it says ( please see attached)

Microsoft Windows XP
MK48G-CG8VJ-BRVBB-38MQ9-3PMFT

my product key information is as above in the attached file.

yet the product key information that i received with the computer

my windows product key
information that came with Hewlett Packard Pavilion Ze4230 start- up CD:

QKTBW- TVHX6- W6XJT- CMCBQ- 8DKJY

is different,
also see attached file.

which is more accurate?

which is the correct product key?

the product key that came with my CD?,

or the information
from the product key software tool?

or does the product key change from time to time?

i only want to be a qualified registered user of windows XP Home, SP 2...

What prompted you to try to verify the key? Something on the Windows Update
site? If so, what happened when you put in the one that came with your
computer? Was it rejected? If so, what happened when you put in the other?

Hello Roberet,
May I ask if Microsoft asked for you to verify your key code? If not,
throw away the magical beans and use the code that came with your system.
Also I would be careful about posting the codes in the rooms. Someone
could use the correct code to license a bogus XP CD and then you will really
have a hard time. Best of luck to you,
Ron J

OEM Computer manufacturers use a "master" image to load system harddrives.
All systems loaded with the same master will show the same product key. That
is the number that MJ Keyfinder found and as you've seen it won't work for
validation when downloading Microsoft products which require it, nor will it
work as the key for reinstalling Windows. The number on the sticker on the
side of your computer is "your" product key.

Along those lines, Microsoft has made some changes regarding OEM computers
and product activation to close a perceived "loophole" in WPA.

See;
http://www.betanews.com/article/Microsoft_Closes_Activation_Loophole/1109293194

Also for the MVPs that don't seem to know about Product Validation:

"If you request a genuine Windows download from the Microsoft Download
Center, you will be prompted to complete the validation process."

http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/whyValidate.aspx

This is why "Robert J. Lafayette" was asked to verify his installation.

It looks like you use Outlook Express. You can try cancelling your own post.
It might take awhile for it to go through though. Select your message then
go to Message->Cancel Message. Unfortunately you've likely already seriously
compromised your key.

Never, ever post such information as real Product Keys to the Internet;
in effect, you have just given your license away to any software thief
who wants to use it.

If you have a factory-installed OEM license, and haven't since
reinstalled the OS, the revealed Product Key is probably of the drive
image used at the factory and not your specific Product Key; therefore,
it probably cannot be -- and definitely should not be -- used for a
validation.
