Product Key

While setting up windows XP my computer asked me to fill in my product key. I
had to search for it (there was another product key filled in, but that
wasn't the same as mine). When I had my product key the frame 'to fill in
your product key' was alreday gone and my computer was starting. I think I'm
not using my own product key. Also when I start my computer a whole list of
information appears on my desktop, such as: Boot Time, CPU,...
It only dissappears when I set up another desktop, but when I restart my
computer the information returns.
So I have the following two (or three) questions: What can I do to check my
Product Key and change it if necessary? (and will this have consequences for
my computer?) And why does that information appears on my screen, how can I
undo this?

It would be very helpfull to get some information about this. Thank you for
your help.

What kind of installation CD did you use to install WinXP? Was it an
OEM Recovery CD that came with the computer? If so, and the OS isn't
prompting you to Activate it, then you need do nothing more.
