I have a related issue with anti piracy but the thread really meandered so I
thought I would post it as new subject lest it get lost in the din.
The cmptr which I purchased about 2 months back from an OEM vendor has a
different product key number that is pasted on the cmptr case from the actual
product key number--I found this out by running 'aida32' and the Everest home
edition of Lavaly's Inc--the product key displayed in the software section on
both these programs is identical but totally different from the
product(WindowsXP SP1) key on the cmptr case. Is it possible that Microsoft
will correct this? Do any of their responsible people ever look at these
posts? And take action to correct OEM vendors or are too busy making their $
while only paying lip service to anti piracy? For information the OEM vendor
is HCL Infosystems(in India) and on querying them they tried to explain that
they have the license from Microsoft to do so. Sure enough when I wanted to
update Plus! package supplied by the vendor, the CD supplied with the machine
didn't work and when I called them up they sent in their support staff but
were unable to correct the problem. Its nearly 3 weeks now and constant
reminders are only responded with --we're looking into it but nothing
substantial or remotely satisfying.
Can somebody advise me where to go from here? The machine is under warranty
for 1 year from date of purchase.
