Product ID vs. Product Key

I have a copy of Windows XP Pro Upgrade which I purchased to upgrade my
system a year ago. During the process of upgrading, I learned that my old
system couldn't handle it, so I purchased a new computer that already
contained Windows XP Pro. I never returned the original upgrade software
that I purchased, and I want to give it away to someone else. Before I do
that, I want to make sure this software isn't already registered in my name,
and if it is, I want to remove my name from the registration, so that someone
else can register it.

In order to contact Microsoft Windows XP support, I need to give them my
product ID which I guess is assigned when the product was uploaded. Since I
don't have this software on my machine, I have no way of accessing the
product ID. Hence I cannot contact Microsoft Support to find out if the
Product Key is available, or if it is already registered in my name.

I did try accessing support using my product key, but support rejected it as
a valid product ID.

What do I do? How do I determine if I can pass on this copy of Windows XP
Pro? And, if it's already registered in my name, how do I unregister it?

Thanks in advance.

How do I "deactivate", move to another computer, or sell
a previously activated XP?

EULA - end user licence agreement

You Product Key is located in the folder containg the XP Upgrade CD and
manual. It's on a sticker, fixed to the case of new PCs with OEM versions of
XP. The Certificate of Authenticity [COA] is another item of proof that it
is not a pirated copy of XP.

So if you plan to 'sell' on the XP Upgrade edition, make sure you find all
this information. The details are also stored in the PC onto which the
upgrade was applied. Using Belarc Adviser will give Activation Code and
Product Key - it's a free download, so Google if you need to use it.

Thanks for your input. BTW, what is EULA?
