Processor Overheating?

Hi, I have a Sony Vaio with a P4 processor. If my laptop has been running for a period of time (over 30 minutes) and I am doing video editing, photo editing, power point, scanning, printing, or watching a video clip the machine will just completely shut down (no warnings / no rebooting). In my opinion the processor is overheating as the back and bottom of the machine are very hot. The problem first occured a couple of months ago only when doing something real big like video editing, now lately it seems like it doesn't take much and down she goes. The fine folks at Sony and Intel have suggested updating my bios (I am not a computer techny and have no clue as what to do there).

Funny thing is I have an old thinkpad also (just not much RAM or Diskspace) with a P3 and the fan never kicks in or gets hot even when editing video.

Can anyone give me any suggestions?

The instructions on how to update the BIOS should be in the manual you got
with the Vaio. Try reading it.

Sounds like you may have a dirty fan in there somewhere. If you are a brave
sort, take it apart and clean it inside.
