Processor Fan

Anyone heard of during bootup something causes the fan on the processor to
stop? This has occurred with 5 different processors and the fan stops at the
same time with each one. The fan stops when the screen goes from Microsoft
Windows XP and you see the blue running through the bar to Blue screen.

Does it completely stop or just slow down?

Desktop/tower PCs or laptops? This might occur with the "SpeedStep" style
of laptops.

I've seen it on desktop towers, too. Turn on the PC, fan's going like a
bat out of hell, as soon as Windows boots it slows down considerablty.

Does the fan start up again when the CPU load increases later? Which CPU's?
Sounds like a plausible occurrence if you have a CPU 'driver' loading that
monitors the fan speed. Some have interfaces that allow you to adjust the
degree of slowing.

clearly, some sort of fan controller software has kicked in; check your
startup list; get startup control panel:

BTW, this is not too uncommon, and not neccessarily a bad thing. It's
trying to lower the noise level while still providing "enough" cooling.
 
Does it start up again shortly after, or when some computing load is
applied? Some of these cpu or chipset drivers have interfaces allowing you
to set minimum fan speeds. Do you have any application to monitor the CPU
temperature? If your machine didn't come with one, there are others, some
free, which will sometimes monitor your hardware.
