Probs deleting cookies

S

SE

Whenever I delete my browsing history (delete all), my cookies remain. I've
tried to delete everything seperatley as well but my cookies stay. The only
way that I can delete them is to manually delete them in the temp folder.

How can I fix this without having to use a seperate program?

Thanks!

You could try deleting the 'index.dat' file. You will need to end task on
Explorer to do that. Open a Command prompt by rightclicking the icon, and
'run as administrator'. Change to your %userprofile%/UserData folder. Type
the command :
del index.dat

Don't hit enter yet, Open Task Manager, and end task on the explorer task,
then run that prompt command. Restart Windows to test the cookie delete.

Thanks Mark. But that's a bit too technical for me. How do I change to my
%userprofile%/UserData folder?

The easiest way to handle cookies is to install "Ccleaner" It gives you
a facilty to decide which ones you want to keep and which you want to
delete. Its very useful , can be set to clean on start up, saves you going
into "My Computer" to clean disk. One thing to remember though it only cleans
the "Account" you install it on, so if you have more than one account you
need to install it seperatley for each one, including your preferences
(Settings). Its very simple to use and very effective!

Ccleaner... a separate program but free and an excellent way to controll
cookies among other things.

OK, so everytime I delete my history, I dwell on the fact that I can't delete
my cookies wthout having to use another program or delete them manually. I
have a DELETE COOKIES button but it doesn't work. And the fact that it
doesn't work is what's causing me heartache. Things need to work right in
order for me to relax. I've been using CCLEANER, but knowing that I HAVE to
use it is the problem.

Anyone know why my DELETE COOKIES button doesn't work?

Using the basic Windows firewall and AVG antivirus. I don't think it's AVG
though cause I had this problem before I installed that. Prior to AVG, it was
Norton but I removed Norton as soon as I turned the computer on.

No, I did not but I ran it now. Thanks!

Gave it a reboot and no luck. My cookies are still there...

I don't know why you're still having the problem but here's a possible
single click workaround.

Copy and paste the below text into a NotePad document. Replace "username"

use "all files" not "txt".
If done correctly you'll see a toolbox icon for the file.

Click the file and it should delete all your cookies.

Hey Bob, using IE with no add ons didn't seem to work, right clicking on
CookieKiller and running as admin didn't work either. I have not used
CCleaner to delete any registry items and I don't have any third party anti
spyware programs installed, just using Defender.

This is starting to get rather frusterating cause I want everything to work
the way it's supposed to! I've gotten all my windows updates hoping that
there would be a fix somewhere there but still no luck!

Bob said:
It looks fine.

A few more thoughts/suggestions:

1. Right-click on the IE desktop icon and select the Start without add-ons
option. If this solves your problem, enable add-ons one at a time, testing
as you go, until you find the culprit.

2. Right click the file and Run as Administrator.

Have you used CCLEANER to delete any registry items?

Do you have any anti-spyware programs installed?

So, I'm back. Resetting my explorer didn't help after all. Whenever I restart
my system, my button stops working and everything goes back to normal.

What worked this time? Creating a new user account. The problem is that I
lose all my emails if I delete my existing account and then I have to
basically start all over again with most other programs that I have installed
(Dreamweaver, Outlook, etc).

Does anyone know of a way to do this WITHOUT having to go through all this?
