Javier,

To resolve this issue, ensure that the Windows XP clients have the
preferred DNS pointed to the Domain Controller. Also, ensure that the
"Primary DNS Suffix of this computer" option in Windows XP has the FQDN of
the Domain Controller. To configure the "Primary DNS Suffix of this
computer" option, please follow the steps mentioned below:

To configure the primary DNS suffix for a client computer
Open System in Control Panel.
Click the Computer Name tab.
This tab displays the computer name, the workgroup or domain to which it
belongs, and a brief description of the computer.

Click Change, and then click More.
In DNS Suffix and NetBIOS Computer Name, do the following:
For Primary DNS suffix of this computer, specify the DNS suffix to be
appended to the name of this computer when completing its fully qualified
domain name (FQDN)
fully qualified domain name (FQDN)
A DNS name that has been stated to indicate its absolute location in the
domain namespace tree. In contrast to relative names, an FQDN has a
trailing period (.) to qualify its position to the root of the namespace
(host.example.microsoft.com.)..

After applying these changes, restart the computer to initialize it with
its new DNS domain name.
If the computer has been previously installed and configured as a DNS
server, verify that zone authority records are updated.
These include the start of authority (SOA)
start of authority (SOA)
A record that indicates the starting point or original point of authority
for information stored in a zone. The SOA resource record (RR) is the first
RR created when adding a new zone. It also contains several parameters used
by other computers that use DNS to determine how long they will use
information for the zone and how often updates are required.and name server
(NS) name server (NS)
A resource record used in a zone to designate the DNS domain names for
authoritative DNS servers for the zone.resource records, substituting the
new FQDN to replace the single label name previously in use.
