Problems writing Vista DVD iso to DVD...

Hi all,

This sounds like a really silly question.
But I am having (apparently) severe problems writing the Vista downloaded
..iso to DVD.

I know it is a disk image (I have done the write countless times with .iso
for Linux etc) and when I try to write with Nero, I get read errors in the
last segments of the disc.

I have downloaded Vista twice, but continue to get verification errors...
Has anyone else had these problems?
I do not want to trust a 'bad disc' for a Vista install.

Any yes:

a) I have tried 4 different makes of DVD
b) I have tried 2 recorders (which previously wrote fine)
c) I have written at the slowest possible speed
d) I have tried another writing program as well as Nero.

QUESTION - will an extracted ISO which is obviously many seperate files, be
expected to verify after writing or am I assuming there is a problem when
there is none? The ISO is of course one file, the written extrected disc
contains many files.

Please advise!!

Where did you get the download from????? (-;

If you obtained it from Microsoft, you could have copied the SHA hash number
and then compared the downloaded file against this hash. If the file checks
OK, then you got a good download. If it doesn't - you need to download it
again.

Now, if you didn't get it from Microsoft - well, you will just have to
figure it out on your own!

I got it FULLY OFFICIALLY from Microsoft.

I have checked the SHA1 hash and it was fine each time I downloaded it.
The comparison was correct.

So I am therefore totally puzzled about the so called 'verification errors'
from Nero and another program.

I have never used Nero to burn the DVD. But I have used Roxio Easy Media
Creator to bun the DVD's about 12-15 times. I have never had a problem using
Roxio.

Are you burning within Windows XP? You should.

You can use ISO Recorder, a free power toy for Windows XP. Here's the

Ok I copied the DVD file to another computer with a Sony recorder..
The others were Panasonic on XP x64 - but they have never had a problem like
this..

But on the other computer running 32 bit windows, it wrote and verified ok..

Using of all things Ashampoo Burning Studio 5.
It is now installing. There was (with the versions with errors on the disc)
an installation error detected during unpacting of files - but this time it
has run through and has nearly completed the install.

So it obviously was a disc write error (I tried a couple of programs to
verify the SHA1 and both gave the same, correct value). But it's really odd..
Maybe a bug in x64 but I can't believe that.

Will report if Vista installed ok, and thanks for the advice.

Radioman, go out and get imgburn and burn your iso from there. It's simple,
and easy to use, and gives a good iso copy every time. www.imgburn.com

I have suceeded in

a) Witing the ISO on another computer and drive (Sony)
b) Sucessfully installing Vista

The only issue I can possibly think is afecting a LARGE write to DVD is the
fact the ISO of 2.6 GB (approx) is on a Raid 0 array ?!?! (Ie spread over two
HDD)
Might this affect a write?

The computer I sucessfully used to write the ISO uses a single disc for the
ISO.
