Problems with Windows Backup and DEP - reinstall the utility?

I recently purchased an external hard drive for backups. When first tried to
use Windows Backup, it started in Wizard Mode and I received a Data Executive
Protection (DEP) error. I reported the error to Microsoft via the automatic
error reporting feature and changed the program so that it didn't start in
Wizard Mode. I tried the program several more times, but each time I clicked
the backup tab or backup wizard button I received a DEP error. I reported
each of these errors; none of them showed a status report of the error screen
that one usually gets after reporting an error.

I went into System Properties > Perfomance Options and set up an exclusion
to Windows Backup Utility under the Data Execution Prevention tab and
restarted. Now whenever I do any of the things above that caused the DEP
error, the program just closes without any error dialog. I did have software
installed that allows one to mount CDs and DVDs virtually; I uninstalled that
thinking that the changes it made to how SCSI was handled might cause a
conflict with Windows Backup. It didn't make a difference. I also went into
BIOS and verified that the hardware virus warning was turned off, it is.

This is the first time I'm tried using Windows Backup on this computer. I
have been using Nero with a DVD writer for backups. I am wondering if a
reinstall of the utility might help, but I am not sure how to do this. If
anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Thank you. System specs follow:

Software:
OS - Windows XP Pro SP2 with all updates installed
Background programs - Weather Bug, Windows Messenger, avast! Antivirus on
access scanner, Morpheus, NVidia NVMixer, and Microsoft ActiveSync.

Hardware -
Biostar T-Force NForce 4 Ultra motherboard
AMD X2 3800+ CPU (overclocked 20%, completely stable)
1 GB of Corsair 3200 CAS 2 memory
XFX GForce 7600 PCIE video card
2 80 GB Seagate SATA 2 hard drives in RAID 0 configuration (hence the need
for backup)
Using onboard sound (when will they make a sound card with AC'97 or HD Audio
connectors so those of us with cases that have integrated front panel mic and
heaphone jacks can use them?)

Hi,

XP backup cannot backup files to external device or internal optical drives.
You need 3rd party software like NTI backup, Nero Backup, etc.
The work around for using XP backup to ext. device is to first backup files
to any internal harddisk drive and than move the file to external drive.

Thank you for your response. Actually the problem is more fundemental than
that; the program crashes before I can select a destination for the back up
or even select files. I have used Backup in a previous computer to create
backup volumes the correct size for a DVD, back up to the internal RAID
array, and then copy the file to a DVD as my previous computer had a version
of Nero that didn't include a backup function.

The problem is whenever I try the backup wizard or enter the backup tab of
the program, the program just terminates. Normally, if a program displays
this type of instability I would just remove the program and reinstall it.
Unfortunately, when I use the add/remove applet and look at Windows
component, I don't see an option to uninstall Windows Backup. I know that
there are files other than just the ntbackup.exe file in the system32
directory (or folder, in current parlance) associated with this program. I'm
wondering if anyone out there knows how to uninstall/reinstall it.
