Problems with SP2

Yesterday I downloaded SP2. I have Windows XP Home, AVAST as my Anti-Virus
program.

After downloading several things happened:
1. AVAST stopped working
2. I could not send email messages, although I could receive messages
3. All old deleted email messages for the month of July and August were
returned to my inbasket.

I deleted SP2, and restored my computer to August 29 settings, but would
very much like to try to reinstall the program (I now ordered the CD to do
this). But, before I reinstall, I'm wondering if there is something I can
and/or should do to prevent a bad install the next time?

Do you have Avast checking your email? If so, disable that as it offers no
added protection and can cause problems like you're experiencing.

I'd hardly call a problem with avast a bad sp2 install. Don't jump on the
it's all microsofts fault bandwagon. Have you tried here:
