Problems with Service Pack 3 and "Connect to console"

D

Dave

Good morning,

It appears that with the installation of Service Pack 3 to Windows XP Pro,
the "Connect to console" function no longer works in the Remote Desktop mmc
snap-on when connecting to Windows 2003 Servers. I would assume this is
caused by the command change in RDP 6.x, from /console to /admin.

Can anyone verify this?

Thanks,

Dave

MMC 3.0 is installed on the servers already.

Moving forward, what are Microsoft's plans to release a fix for this?

Also see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907265. MMC 3.0 will need to be

Ok...

From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946480/ ->
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946480/ ->
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925876/ (Remote Desktop Connection
(Terminal
Services Client 6.0))

So MSTSC 6.0 is included with SP 3. MSTSC 6.0 has a change of commands
for
connecting to the console. /console is replaced by /admin.

The command change seemingly breaks the snap-in version of Remote
Desktops.
I assume MS is working on a fix?

Maybe it's only "broken" for you, for whatever reason.

I recommend that you avail yourself of...

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and
e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada.

I guess I should not have expected a response that would differ from the
canned Microsoft response.

I am not the only one experiencing the problem.

And I did try the free support. They told me it was out of their scope
because I'm on a domain instead of a stand alone system. They transferred me
to the fee based support who then would not provide support because they said
my MSDN number was invalid (I was reading the number to them straight off the
MSDN website...).

Any other great ideas or can we just expect MS to let this one flop too?
