problems with Routing And Remote Access service

Hi,

I am running Windows 2000 Advanced Server with NAT enabled using the option
located in the Network Properties. Now I needed to enable Routing and Remote
Access Service (R&RAS) to create a tunnel so I disabled Internet Sharing and
started R&RAS but everytime I start the service I lose connectivity to the
Internet. I can only ping my own interfaces. Where can I search for the
problem? Thanks.

Yes, I was using ICS. Since I want to set up a tunnel I disabled it by
unchecking "Enable Internet Connection Sharing for this connection" and
rebooted the server. At this point the server has connectivity to the
Internet, the problem occurs if I enable RRAS. Suddenly I cannot reach any
outside network. I can only ping my interfaces.

Did you enable vpn on it also?? If you did you may need to delete or modify packet
filtering on the external interface. Of course do not delete them unless you have a
firewall to protect from the internet. Go to rras console and under IP routing go to
general. Find your adapters and look under properties/general - input and output
filters. Configuring vpn will often add filtering to the external interface. ---

I don't know if there is a way to reinstall RRAS because when I add the
server to RRAS then I configure it I don't get any tree inside the server
(Ports, Clients for remote access, IP routing, etc.) I only have an icon
with the server and a green arrow.

Well you don't really reinstall it but you can disable it on that conputer and then
renable it which will require that you reconfigure it. Otherwise check the interfaces
under IP routing /gerneral to see if they have packet filtering enabled and if they
do you scan change or remove the entires. --- Steve
