Problems with Outlook 2003 compacting folders

Windows XP Pro updated with SP3 Saturday. Since then Outlook 2003 has been
pretty flakey, to say the least. Lots of freezing on startup, very slow to
change folders, and every few seconds it throws up a dialog box telling me
Outlook can save disk space by compacting folders. On occasion I briefly see
some folder names run by with a "thermometer" below them, but mostly clicking
"OK" just results in the box disappearing and reappearing a few minutes (or
seconds) later. I do notice that since that upgrade everything seems to have
slowed down BIG TIME. Anybody have any suggestions?

TIA!

Reporting the exact error message(s) rather than paraphrasing goes a LONG way towards getting a useful answer.

Well Hi Milly.

As a former MVP myself and a guy that attended the first 3 MVP Summits in
Redmond I gotta say "thanks for the quick reply" and also have to tell ya
that I didn't "paraphrase" anything. I reported behavior. Had there been an
error message I would have reported it, or better yet, pasted the entire
thing in the post. Unfortunately, no error message. All I can tell ya at
this point is the behavior continues this morning unabated. Since the only
change to hardware or software yesterday was the addition of XP SP3 I guess
the next step is to uninstall that and see what happens. If that cures the
problem I'll then be looking for some way to keep Windows from installing it
again... and again... and again.

Thanks!
