problems with opening folders

I have problems opening the My Pictures and My Music
folders under My documents. Everytime I try, it will loead
half of the programme and stopps responding. I had copied
the folders onto the desktop and they worked perfectly
fine. Can anyone tell me how and why it happens like that?

Putting Windows XP System folders on your desktop is a bad move. (Or any folders) You
RIGHT click the folder you want on your desktop in either My Computer or Windows Explorer,
then you left click: Send to/Desktop (create shortcut). That way the icon on your desktop
is a SHORTCUT, which will open the folder, but is not the actual folder itself. If you
delete a desktop shortcut to a folder, the folder and its files remain on your drive. If
you delete an actual folder from your desktop, it's gone along with its contents.
