Problems with Numbered Lists

THE SCENARIO: I have a numbered list...then I have a paragraph...now I begin
another numbered list under the new paragraph. THE PROBLEM: The numbered
list continues, so I right-click and re-start numbering...although it does
re-start the numbering, the tabs shifts on all the numbered lists.

Why is this happening? I keep modifying the style to correct the
tabs...they all update and they all look wonderful...until I create another
list...then they all shift again b/c I have to do the whole process all over
again. PLEASE HELP!
