Problems with .mpg file association

Hi all,

Can anyone help with this? Double-clicking on .mpg or .mpeg files used
to associate with my Nero Showtime app and then open the player/play
the file. However, all of a sudden this no longer works. When using
file association the app will open ok but will instantly close. Once
this has happened I can't get any .mpg file to play at all in any media
app (Nero, Windows Media Player etc.) until I've logged out and back in
again. The only way I can get .mpgs to play at all is to open the app
first and then identify the file that I want to play - trying to do it
by file association always fails. The really irritating thing is that
once I've doulbe-clicked a file and generated the problem I can't even
get a .mpg file to run even when I open the app first and then locate
the file. A re-login is always required at this point.

Any ideas?

Hi Wes,

Thanks for your suggestion, but it's not quite what I'm after. The app
associates with the file type ok - the associated app opens
immediately, but then instantly shuts down. Once this happened I can't
open an mpg any way at all until I re-login.

Regards,

Richard.

Richard,

Look in the Event Viewer for any clues.

To open the Event Viewer...
Start | Run | Type: eventvwr | Click OK

Application would be the first place to look.

Thanks. Will give this a go and let you know. Will make image b/u of
PC first though, just to be on the safe side. (For some reason I'm
also having problems backing up my registry.)
