I want do discribe my problem in english at first, and at the end I put my
native german text
I've got a problem with my IBM LTO3-Ultrium 3580 External TapeDrive. I use
the Backup tools ntbackup and Symantec BackupExec. After 4 month of perfect
work, the backupjob was able to write only 10 GB data on the Tape and then i
got an error message: 0xe00084ec - Error reading/writing data from/to the
media. (Symantec)
So I cleaned the tapedrive with a cleaning cartridge and the game starts
from the beginning. 10 GB -> dirty Tape -> cleaning.
I 've already changed the complet Ultrium drive, the SCSI Cable, the SCSI
Terminator, the backuptool (used ntbackup only at the beginning), the SCSI
Connector (we changed the server the Drive wasconnected to). we already uesed
different tapes from different manufacturers and tapes that once worked
without a problem. The ID of the SCSI drive but the error is still remaining.
I an other newsgroup I found that it might be from dust, but the LTO2 Tape
drive in the same room was running normaly for a full year, and the new LTO3
tape drive was showing the same errors freshly after the connection to the
server.
I've also tried to save a lot of small files, but after nearly 10 GB the
same problem.
Does anyone have any Idea where i might find a solution.

Ich hab bei uns Probleme mit einem LTO 3 Bandlaufwerk.
Nachdem das LTO3 Laufwerk ca 4 Monate ohne Probleme lief, trat plötzlich
folgender Fehler auf.
Das Sicherungsprogramm (ntbackup / bzw Symantec Backup exec) kann ca. 10 GB
/ 4 Minuten Daten auf das Band schreiben, dann bricht das Programm ab und
meldet ein verschmutztes Band und möchte die Reinigungsbänder haben.
Symantec konnte ich wenigstens noch folgende Fehlermeldung entlocken:
e00084ec - Ein Lese-/Schreibfehler trat auf. Dies ist in der Regel auf
schmutzige Lese-/Schreibköpfe im Medienlaufwerk zurückzuführen. Reinigen Sie
das Medienlaufwerk und wiederholen Sie den Auftrag. Besteht das Problem
anschließend weiterhin, verwenden Sie ein andeZusätzliche Informationen zu
diesem Fehler finden Sie unter der Verknüpfung V-79-57344-34028.
Reinigungsbänder habe ich natürlich schon eingesetzt, Das Problem tritt aber
gleich danach wieder auf. Daraufhin habe ich schon so ziehmlich alles
getauscht:
Laufwerk
Medien (sowohl neue, als auch alte die schon mal erfolgreich beschrieben
wurden)
Anschlusskabel
SCSI-Terminator
Controllerkarte
Treiber
SCSI ID
Server an dem das Laufwerk angeschlossen ist.
Ich habe gelesen das es angblich Staubbelastung sein soll, möchte ich aber
ausschliessen, da das neue Laufwerk sofort den Fehler aufwies, und ein im
selben Serverraum stehendes LTO2 Laufwerk diesen Fehler nicht aufweist.
