Problems with Javascript links

R

Rob Lew

I'm having problems with the links on my trading account
webpage. It seems that all links that have a
Javascript:AppendSessionID('/XXX.asp') command do not work.
Here's a link to the page in question:
http://www.optionsxpress.com/

I've tried reinstalling IE 6.0, as well as reinstalling Sun
Javascript. I run both IE 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633
and Netscape 7.01, and this page doesn't work in either.
Oddly enough, after I reinstalled IE and Java, Netscape
allowed me to log in, but on the next reboot, I lost the
capability to log in. IE didn't work after the reinstalls.

Now, to throw another bit of weirdness - there was one
occasion where I was able to log in and navigate the
javascript links on IE, but upon next bootup, the
capability was lost again. I've looked in the MS support
KB and ensured my security settings are at the appropriate
levels - though I've done nothing to change them.

What could cause Javascript function to spontaneously stop
and then work intermittantly? Any ideas on where to look
or things to try would be appreciated.

I've got it Rob!

I sent an email to optionsxpress and to the authors of the
optionsxpress website (mailto:[email protected]).

And here are the two replies:

Hello,

There seems to be an issue if you are using norton programs, either
the firewall or internet security. Rather than using
www.optionsxpress.com try using https://www.optionsxpress.com address
and everything should be working fine for you. Going directly to the
secure site seems to allow norton to give access to use the javascript
links.

Ben,

Are you possibly using an anti-virus program like Norton? Try going to
https://www.optionsxpress.com and let me know if that works for you.
That's the SECURE link to our site that should bypass any JavaScript
protection your software may be overriding.

Thanks,

Ben,

Thanks for the help! I tried logging into the secure site
and it works. I am running norton internet security, so
this matches my experience. Oddly enough, there are times
I can log in fine and I'd been running Norton for quite a
while before having these problems. This is why I thought
it was something to do with XP updates. I hadn't thought
to try support from optionsxpress. Thanks again for your help!
