Problems with Installshield

Ok here goes.

Installshield is annoying the crap out of me

All started when I found out that I had that VX2/f spy/malware bug on my
system, and that VX2/f had infected my Java 2 runtime installation with a lot
of trojans and byteVerify crap *around 30 individual trojans*

Well, I ran antivirus, and then uninstalled Java 2 seeing as I dont even
have anything that needs it, and then things got weird

I cant defrag my HD, the program opens, but clicking on Analyse or defrag
doesnt do anything, just seems as if Im clicking an HTML button that hasnt
been linked to anything

Also, whenever I try to install anything i get the following message

"The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launched
The RPC server is unavailable."

WTF does this mean, i look in the services menu and RPC server and Locator
are both listed as started but windows seems to be ignoring itself or
something, please help, I cannot re install as my WinXP disk somehow wound up
being taken with the trash on wednesday (probably the cleaning service we
have, as everytime they come i end up losing something)

I would first boot to safe mode and do a complete virus scan, and repeat
the trojan removal, whatever you did.

www.installshield.com has instructions for this SP2 problem. The
reference to the rpc service is real, but *it* is calling the Windows
Installer service which must be in Automatic startup and started. The
DCOM Server Process launcher is also involved with this error. Set it
to Automatic start, but it will not manually start from my experience,
so you will have to reboot to get it started.
