Problems with installing XP home

Ive tried to reinstall XP home after formating my HD. Ive made the 6 MS bootd
disks for XP and i have a XP CD, which Ive instadelled from before and its
worked.
If i boot the computer with the first boot disk in the computer takes me
through the process of inserting the varius disks, then asks me if i want to
instal XP, to which i answer yes. it asks for the XP CD, but when it starts
to instal from it, this message appears:
"the following value in the .SIF file sued by setup is corrupt or missing.
value 0 onthe line in section [SourceDisksFiles] with key ´SP2.cab´
Setup cannot continue. to quite setup, press F3"

Ive tried to install sevral times but its given me the same message each time.
Ive tried to boot from the CD, but before it really gets anywere, the
message "NTLDR is missing" comes upp and askes me to reboot.....

If anyone can help me out of this problem Id be very thankful.

Things *do* go bad.
Scratched CD, old cd drive laser, old CD drive motor, etc.

The only other options are bad IDE cable (if IDE CD or hard disk drive), bad
controller (on motherboard) or possibly - but doubtful - bad hard disk
drive/memory.
