Problems with importing an excel file.

I have an excel file that has a field/column of data like 1.2.3. When I try
to import this excel file in access it reads the text 1.2.3 as a number
instead of text. In the excel file it is formatted as txt but access
switches it to a number format. And since it is not a correct number
format I get errors. This problem occurs if I link the file or import it in.
What can I do to fix this.

Try making a table in access and specifying the field as
text. Then, when you import the excel file, import it
into your existing table.

I didn't get to try this, but what about trying to save
your excel as a text file, then import it into access?

This may be too late a response, but here goes anyway. If you add an
apostrophe before each item in each cell of the specific column (or any
column or cell), the link or import from Excel to Access will read that
entire column as text and that will eliminate any errors. The apostrophe does
not show up on either the Excel data or the Access data, it just makes
numeric formatting into text formatting.
