Problems with IE6

M

Michael Reinders

Have XP Pro SP2, and about a week ago, am noticing several issues. The two
main ones are:

Boot up of XP now takes 4-5 minutes, as opposed to the normal 2 minutes.

When clicking on Favorites or Links, web pages come right up. When typing
in a URL (www.cnn.com) there is a 2-3 minute delay while the IE logo spins,
nothing happens. Then, all of a sudden, the page comes up.

What is the best way to diagnose/fix this? I tried re-applying XP SP2, that
didn't help. I tried doing a system restore from 10 days ago, and of course
that failed. Any other ideas?

Thank you!

You might try this to spped things up. When IE slows for me this helps
sometimes. Delete your temporary internet files and your history. My
technician recommends this in IE once a week. To do this in IE select tools,
internet options, delete files, check delete all offline content, click OK.
This will take a little bit. I recommend saving your cookies although if you
want to delete them go for it. Then delete your history by clicking clear
history. This may speed up IE for you. Let me know if this works.

Hi Kaja
I try and make a habit of doing this every time I leave IE after a session -
in any case, at the end of the day.
Also I keep the %temp% cleaned out as I tend to switch the computer off and
on three or four times a day and it soon builds up in that temp.
I wonder what free space the poster has - sounds a bit like a clogged
machine - short on HHD?

If that helps, reduce your TIF to 50 MB.
