problems with IE / java(script?)

I like to use the NFL.com live scoring feature, which
uses some combination of Java and Javascript. The
problem is that when I go to the live scoring page, my
entire computer will halt for 5-10 seconds, then be ok
for 5-10 seconds, then halt again, on/off/on/off. Once I
close the offending page, the computer starts responding
ok, but my internet connection is gone. All I get then
is page not found errors. I am on a cable modem. Once I
reboot, all is fine unless I try to go back to that page.

Repeated emails to sportsline (who runs nfl.com) have
gone unanswered.

Other java apps run just fine, it seems to be something
specific to nfl.com/sportsline.com.

I have downloaded both the MS VM (and updated) and the
Sun VM, trying both. Same result. I have scanned for
scumware, virii, etc. I did all patches/updates/service
packs for IE 6.0, windows XP.

Am I not thinking of something, or is there something
else I should try? Hopefully someone has had a similar
problem and can help - I'm about out of ideas.

Thanks,
Mike

Tools/internet options/advanced/Microsoft VM
....only tick the JIT compiler box and leave the Java boxes un checked
(default)
when running Win 95 IE 5.5, else the browser window closes.
Same thing for IE 6, confirmed.

Microsoft's Scripting download
Get the latest. Two download versions are available for Windows Script 5.6.
The first version requires Windows 2000, XP; the second version requires
Microsoft Windows 98, Millenium Edition (Me), or NT 4.0. Choose the download
appropriate for your operating system.

Delays can also be caused by some spywares calling home.
