problems with dial-up connection

My dial-up connection just seems to appear as sson as the
XP loads and starts dialling up without being prompted
to. Even if I cancel it, it repeats the same thing in a
few seconds. It goes on and on. How can I stop this?

Open Control Panel, open Internet Options, go to the Connections tab and
place a check next to Never Dial a Connection.

If the issue continues:
First, be sure your antivirus software has the latest definitions and run a
virus scan.

Second, download, install and run Ad Aware:

Note: you should always be well backed up before running an application of
this type.

Make sure your e-mail client isn't set to check for messages at specified
intervals, check the options of the applications you have installed,
especially antivirus as they may have an option enabled to automatically
check for updates. If you have Real Player installed, if you do a default
installation, you enable options for it to go online looking for updates and
news.

If you have auto-update enabled in XP that might be the issue. Open Control
Panel, open System, go to the Automatic Updates tab, place a check next to
"I don't want automatic updates" and click apply and ok.

Hi,

Right click My Network Places/Properties/Advanced (top toolbar)/Dial-Up
Preferences/Enable Auto-Dial by Location/Uncheck all locations and check off
always ask me before auto dialing. Also, Disable autodial while I am logged
on.

In the Enable Auto-Dial By Location dialog box, select each location for
which you want the automatic dialing feature to operate. Reboot.

Disable or Enable AutoDial (Line 91)

following command at a command prompt: rasautou -s

To delete a name or address entry from the list: Start/Run/Regedit
