Problems with dcpromo

I have two servers wher ethe AD corrupted on DC1. DC2 now
provides the DHCP, AD and connectivity. All works fine
with it. DC1 will not allow me to complete DCPROMO to
demote the server. I receive the following
message "failed finding a suitable domain controller for
the domain DOMAIN". I need to wipe out AD then bring it
back up as a DC again and AD integrate it.

Any suggestions?
