Problems with ADO and IE after "updates"

HI:

After updating (long lapse due to last time I updated and had to
uninstall updates to get system running). It is truly a shame because
since I waited so long, I have 71 updates run one over the other so I
cannot isolate the problems the the particular update which was
"installed the day before".

Two problems:

1. IE throws runtime errors on all java stuff. Particular problem at all
M$ pages. M$ support could not even get me connected to their chat
because it uses JAVA and they said I could not use Netscape (probably
because that will not facilitate their hacking into and running my
system. Probably that ability is a big source of insecurity).

Any ideas which "update" would have screwed this up?

2. I have 100+ Crystal reports running against Interbase using ADO.
After all the latest updates, I could not get a new report to display
memo (BLOB) fields. Other reports worked fine. I took an older report,
backed it up and then removed and added back the BLOB fields. They no
longer worked. I reinstated the back up and the blobs worked again.

flaw in IE is discussed (Nice the IE is so well integrated in the OS).
It alludes to the possibility of the disabling negatively effecting apps
which use intranet (my DB connections are all TCPIP) and how one should
reenable and increase IE security.

Anyway, I reenabled ADODB( It having been disabled by a security update)
and my original (over 1 yr. old) report not works fine when I remove ad
recreate the BLOB fields. Unfortunately, my new design still does not
work for the BLOBS so I figure something else has changed.

Any ideas from anyone as to where to look?

PS: I was on the phone for over 1 hr with M$ Friday. They opened a case
on this (free support because they caused the problem) and after
extensive discussions, was told they would have some "specialists" call
me back in 20 minutes since the live chat thing would not work. I am
still waiting.

All is well now after many hours on phone with MS and endless attempts.
Had to reinstall IE6 and updates + win2k updates then disable
ADODB.Stream security flaw fix and then reassign ADO driver in new
report which had been screwed up evidently by the ADODB fix.

Ugh!!! What a nightmare. Seeing how IE is integrated into OS
functionality, no wonder so many problems.
