Problems transferring outlook.pst to new computer

I have a new laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium and am running Outlook
2003. My old laptop had the same Windows and Outlook versions.

I copied my outlook.pst file to a CD and when I tried to open on new
computer received message "Outlook.pst is not a personal folders file." The
file was read-only on CD; however, when copied to My Documents folder is does
not show read-only. I have tried running scanpst and receive message "The
Inbox Repair Tool does not recognize the file. No information can be
recovered."

I have also tried reopening on old computer and now receive the same error.
Unfortunately, when I copied the file to CD I did not keep a copy on old
laptop only copy I have is on CD and copies that have come from there.

Please assist as I am unsure what else might work.

If you copied the pst whilst Outlook was open the copy would be corrupted,
or possibly your burning software caused the problem.
When you copy from cd to HD, you have to untick the read only attribute in
the resulting hd file.
