Problems to browse workgroup network

Ale

I have a windows XPPro system that was working great. I
have made a couple of network changes, including upgrading
to XP SP1 and I can no longer access my workgroup.
Somethimes I can browse to the computers on the network,
but after few minutes I get this error code:

Workgroup is not accesible. You might not have permission
to use this network resource. Contact de
administrator.........
"Not enough storage is available to process this command"
I haven't this probleme with WIN 2000 and older.

thank's all

"Not enough storage is available to process this command"
indicates that you are falling foul of the IRPStackSize problem.

The problem is on the machine you are attempting to connect to,
not the machine where you see the error message.

This usually appears when you are trying to connect to a specific machine,
like by mapping a drive.

In your case, it seems to be happening when you browse.
I'd guess that you see this at the times when the problem machine
has become the Master Browser or one of the backup browsers.
When your machine attempts to connect to the browser to get the
browse list, it hits the bug.

I think you're going to need to identify which machine(s) is actually the
problem.
That may be a little tricky, depending on how many machines are involved.
You could try mapping drives to each machine in turn.
Or just go look at the IRPStackSize on each.
Or you might look in the EventViewer on each machine, looking for event
ID2011.
If the machine is throwing Event 2011 then it needs fixing.

As a starting point, any machines with Norton AV should be considered as
suspect...

Once you have found which machines are throwing Event 2011,
they are usually fairly easy to fix.

Usual fix :
You need to fix a parameter called IRPStackSize

On the computer you are attempting to connect to,
Set the IRPStackSize back to the default (15 ).
Perform the following steps:

1. Start the registry editor (e.g., regedit.exe).
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
Services\lanmanserver\parameters.
3. Double-click IRPStackSize
(or if this registry setting doesn't exist, create it of
type DWORD and ensure the case is correct).
4. Change the base to decimal, set the value to 15, and click OK.
5. Reboot the computer.

Norton AV is usual suspect for breaking it.

There's a KB article about this, too.
