Problems Restoring Backup file

I am trying to restore a backupfile from one computer onto
another system. When I use the 'Restore Wizard' it tells
me that the backup file is not a valid backup. Does
anyone know if there is a way to do this? The original
computer was stolen, so it is not an option retore it
there.

You need to use the same backup program & operating
system as you had on the stolen PC.

I have Win2000 on both machines. I used the Windows Backup utility to create the backup on the stolen machine, and used the same utility to try to restore it on the new machine. Is there another utility that I can try?
