Problems installing HP 1320n on Vista

K

kimrancholsen

I have connected the printer to the USB port, but Vista does not
detect the printer automatically. When I looked in the Hardware
Management (in danish Enhedshåndtering) on the IEEE 1284.4 port, the
printer is visible.

I tryied install it by doing the following actions:

Add printer
Choose LPT1
I downloaded the latest drivers from HP and chose "have disk..."
I chose the printer
And followed the last steps succesfully

However, when I try to print a test page, the printer status changes
to Error.

I hope that you can help me out here....

Thanks

You're supposed to install the required software BEFORE connecting the
printer to the PC

It sounds like you have the driver set to use LPT1: rather then the USB
port. Go to Start, Settings, Printers, right click on the 1320,
Properties, Ports and select the appropriate USB port.

Bad form to reply to my own post, but I just ran across the following that

Hi Bob,

That last link from the MS Technet forum did the trick. Thank you very
much for your fast response. This was the first time I tried to post a
problem to a news group ever. And it will certainly not be the last
time.

Hi Cari,

Thank you for your suggestion, however I tried Bob Headricks solution
first as this was the easier one of the two. Thanks anyway.
