Problems importing from Excel using Access 2003 sp1

Patrick

After upgrading from Office 2000 to Office 2003 sp1 users can no longer
import Excel spreadsheets into Access, I have verified the problem on exists
on multiple systems. If you open a new db in Access go to tables>import the
'files of type' pull-down list the "Microsoft Excel (*.xls)" is not
available. Only 4 options are available to choose from, Microsoft Access,
ODBC database (), and two others. I have tried uninstalling the Office,
rebooted and reinstalling with all features, upgraded to the latest MDAC
2.8, no help.

Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Patick

Yeah, that's a "feature" (@#$%^&* !!!). Ditto on some other formats that I
would really like to use. The workaround is to go into Excel and SaveAs the
stuff to one of the formats that's on the Access Import format list.

I forgot to meantion that this is not a problem on systems we've upgraded
from Office XP to Office 2003 sp1, just the system that were previously
Office 2000. I'm completly puzzled.

Thanks,
Pat

Ooh, that's out of my hands. I can't get any other behavior from Access
2003 no matter what software history it has. I've wasted WHOLE DAYS on
that! Perhaps one of the other gurus in here will be of service? (I'd
really like to know too)

Thanks for your work around suggestion. Hopefully that will chill an irrate
user for a day or two.

Your input is appreciated.

Mike,

This worked for me. Give it a shot:
Look for the following files on your hard drive (they should be in the
System folder), and use regsvr32.exe to reregister them:
Msexcl40.dll (Microsoft Excel)
Msexch40.dll (Microsoft Exchange)
Msltus40.dll (Lotus 1-2-3)
Mspbde40.dll (Imprise Paradox)
Mstext40.dll (Text)
Msxbde40.dll (Dbase)

Happy Trails,
Pat
